10 key garments of 2021 for the return to work
Fall / Winter collections are always packed with stylish office wear options, ideal for embracing the new season. However, every year new trends and twists arrive that renew the office attire for the coming months. From FashionUnited we analyze the ten essential garments of the season for the return to work. technologyies
The jacket fills with color
Although the black jacket is always a safe bet to look professional
and impeccable, new versions are arriving with color, and they are just as
appropriate for office days. In bright blue like the AMI version or in a less
saturated hue, it is an elegant option in a neutral total look or with a total
black. In Bora Aksu, the blazer is tight and pink, a softer option but just as
elegant. Less vibrant colors are also welcome, including emerald green,
chocolate and burgundy.
Split Hem Pants
This season, the tailored pants and suit pants are getting
an update - still slim and refined, but updated with split hems for added
visual effect. Combined with boots, they reveal fashionable footwear, while
with court shoes they lengthen the leg to achieve a slim silhouette. Theory has
a timeless and simple version in black and, while Derek Lam opts for bright
red, to combine with a white shirt.
The return of the vest
The vest, which has always been a favorite of the formal and
work wardrobe, has remained hidden in the closet for the last decade. This
season, it is back in force with a modern and contemporary approach. Whether
elongated in the form of a dress or in a mini version to wear alone, the suit
vest is a good investment for a neat look and can be kept for years. Etro
presented a classic and fitted option in black and Laura Biagiotti opted for a
fuchsia vest paired with a matching collarless blazer.
The leather is in the details
Although we've seen a lot of leather total-looks in Fall /
Winter collections, office wear tends to be trimmed with leather to make it
look trendy and professional. The jackets have contrasting collars, the shirts
have leather sleeves and the pants have faux patent leather details. The
Barbara Bui houndstooth blazer is ideal for the office, with leather patchwork
on the front for a touch of class. A belt can work well too, like Arias's plaid
jumpsuit, which is finished off with a leather belt.
Knitwear is polished in Adeam FW21 and Aknvas FW21; the suit
is oversize at Maison Rabih Kayrouz FW21.
Oversize suit
This winter season, everything revolves around proportions,
and the suit is no exception. From oversized shoulders to oversized pants and
long hems, the options are endless and always creative. At Altuzarra, we've
seen the fitted waist, balanced with exaggerated shoulders, and paired with
plaid palazzo pants. In contrast, at Maison Rabih Kayrouz, the jacket has an
elongated profile that reaches mid-thigh and the pants fully cover the shoes.
Male loafers
Loafers no longer have to be a style designed for women's
wardrobes: their unisex version is suitable for the entire season. The models
are resistant, come in patent leather and have robust soles that work on urban
asphalt and on any exterior surface. At Cecilie Bahnsen and Celine, the loafers
are supported by rubber soles and made of shiny leather, while at Christian
Dior, velvet is used to create a mix of loafers and flip-flops that nod to
Sandy style and are completed with logos at the top.
Unexpected checkered pattern
Tartan plaids have always been a back-to-school wardrobe
favorite, often revisited in palettes of tan, chocolate, and dark brown hues.
For the Autumn / Winter 2021/22 season, they are updated with bright and bold
colors, and appear in new versions and with new proportions. In Andreas
Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood, the checkered print is burgundy and oversized
or dyed bright blue, and in Marine Serre, it appears in a scarf that is wrapped
around the body to look like a bodice over a long-sleeved top.
The blazer is colorful in AMI Paris FW21; the coat is cozy
in Alberta Ferretti FW21; checkered pattern is unexpected on Andreas Kronthaler

The structured tote bag
Tote bags are office favorites, loved by women and men
alike. Although some baggy and relaxed designs remain, this season what is
carried is a structured form, to be easily placed on the desk without any
effort. At Balmain, it's ultra-slim and compact, but with room for everyday
essentials, while at Anteprima, the tote is the size of a handbag but with
sharp edges for a stylish look.
Knitwear is polished
For office looks, shirts and blouses are worn over knitwear,
but with this season's options, there's no need to leave them at home all week.
The sophisticated options are endless: the fine knit, fitted pattern or elegant
finish creates jumpers and cardigans that can be worn both in and out of the
office. At Aknvas, the turtleneck is featured in a lightweight fabric with a
graphic print, and at Adeam, we saw a deep purple knit dress cut out in a midi
length, which would work well with knee-high boots.
Cozy coats
The coat for the Autumn / Winter 2021/22 season is
comfortable and refined. Many models meet all the requirements at once: a
tailored coat with plush sleeves, a cozy wrap-around or double-breasted coat in
luxurious shearling. At Auralee, we saw an upgraded, structured sherpa jacket
with a high collar, which pairs well with tailored pants. At Alberta Ferretti,
the coat is presented in a teal color and is made from a blend of alpaca and
wool, with a soft, velvety feel.
