Huichol art and nopal skin parade at Fashion Week Mexico
Mexico - Armando Takeda was one of the three designers who presented their collections at the last stop of Fashion Week Mexico before arriving in Mexico City. The platform toured different cities of the Republic throughout the year, bringing national fashion proposals and highlighting local talent.
At this last stop, the city of Mérida, in Yucatán, received
the collection for the Autumn-Winter 2022 season from Armando Takeda, called
México Lindo y Querido.
The philosophy of the brand of the Mexican-Japanese designer
believes that "fashion has the power to encourage people, make people
smile, create emotions and regenerate the strength to move towards an
unexpected future." And this was the foundation on which they laid the
collection at a time when the world began to move forward after the most
difficult months that the pandemic brought. Thus, art, design and fashion come
together to provide a message of hope and of enjoying life.
Ode to Mexico
At Hacienda San Antonio, the models paraded with designs
that are unique garments, since they were created in collaboration with Mexican
Huichol and Purépecha artisans. In particular, the accessories were worked with
Huichol artisans, who use the beads that distinguish their designs in
traditional ceremonies.
Since the collection pays homage to Mexico, the prints of
the pieces are inspired by the natural beauty of the country and by typical
national fabrics and crafts with a modern approach. For example, the brand uses
a yellow and black floral print that is inspired by the typical fabrics used at
homes and parties. Likewise, the garment lines are inspired by traditional
Mexican outfits.
The celebration of the country is not limited to embroidery
and prints, it is also seen in the materials. For the pieces in which leather
is used, the designer made use of the vegan substitute made entirely with
nopal, the material created by the Mexican firm Desserto.
With this collection the way of working of the brand is
maintained, which has two lines. The first is the artisan line that is made in
collaboration with traditional artisans and that represents 60 percent of the
garments that are designed. These unique garments carry a serial number and are
treated like pieces of art. Production is very limited, between 20 and 50
items, depending on the difficulty of creation. The second is the one that does
not contain handicrafts, which represents the remaining 40 percent.
