Seen on the catwalk: Pantone colors for Spring / Summer 2022
Designers have spent the last month showing off their Spring / Summer 2022 collections, with a return to joy and positivity for the season to come. From vibrant neons to pastel hues, Pantone's 10 SS22 fashions have been walking the runway, coloring every look. FashionUnited breaks down each of the key color palettes that are destined to shape next year's fashion. technologyies
Waterfall
Mixing the intensity of emerald green and the delicacy of
almond green, Pantone Cascade offers a refreshing take on this summery shade.
The background is green and infused with a bit of blue for a fresh and bright
effect that attracts attention. We saw it combined with flowers in Antonio
Marras and Dolce & Gabbana and with white in Auralee.
Quartz Coffee
Pantone's Coffee Quartz comes in as a reassuring yet
glamorous color that works year-round, mixing chocolate brown with slightly
lighter undertones for a summery touch. Andrew GN went for this shade in a
structural mini-dress, while Blumarine did the same with a pair of skinny,
cut-out leather pants.
Coral pink
There is no doubt that Pantone's coral pink will awaken
optimism in wardrobes: it embodies the summer season, and this time it is
presented in an oversaturated version. It's bursting with energy and excitement
while still being close to floral inspirations. Batsheva opted for a total look
, Nicole Miller in a gathered mini dress with puff sleeves, while Nensi
Dojaka's swimsuit was combined with light pink to tone down the tone.
Super Sonic
Nodding to Mediterranean blue, Pantone's Super Sonic will
turn heads, especially if adopted as a total look. It's vibrant, intense and
electric at the same time, and can be combined with other shades of blue for a
powerful tonal effect. Alaïa's dress works on its own, while the Acne Studios
ensemble can be easily combined.
Popcorn
Aptly named Popcorn, Pantone's seasonal yellow is subtle -
it's both simple and cheerful, and it's full of warmth. Chloé combined it with
a black tank top and sandals and Acne Studios opted to combine it with white,
while Dawei opted for a complete look based on informal layers.
Potpourri
The Pantone Potpourri is a fresh, light baby pink that is
carefree and soothing to the eye. This new iteration of pink has a calming feel
and appears softer than the usual blush shades. Brandon Maxwell mixed it with
white for a modern gingham print and Elisabetta Franchi and Dawei featured
draped and structured shapes respectively, both balanced by the softness of
Potpourri.
Orchid bloom
Lavender's version for Spring / Summer 2022 is cheerful and
celebrates love with nature's vibrant flowers. Pantone's Orchid Bloom is less
pastel and more saturated than traditional light purple hues and we've seen it
in laid-back, draped pieces at Issey Miyake and Dawei. Marco Rambaldi mixed it
with classic white in a knee-length knit dress.
Bubblegum
Pantone's Bubblegum is the epitome of positivity - it's
saturated, bright, and cheerful. It is presented as a block color and as a base
for the prints of next summer's collections, highlighting any tone with which
it is combined. Adam Lippes and Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood chose
to show it smooth for maximum impact, while Agnès B. incorporated it in an
abstract and colorful pattern.
Sudan Brown
Pantone's Sudan brown is a reference to the outdoors and
back to nature, embodying earthy tones. Mix classic tan brown with mustard
tones for a shade that works just as well on urban asphalt as it does in
nature. Both Elisabetta Franchi and Akris opted for tonal looks, achieving a
sophisticated and elegant silhouette.
Fragile bud
This crisp, eye-catching shade falls somewhere between neon
yellow and apple green. It is the most pigmented shade among Pantone's
fashionable colors for the SS22 season, the Fragile Sprout, it is the one that
impresses the most. Paired with contrasting blacks and grays in David Koma and
Blumarine, it was paired with bright orange pants in Eudon Choi.
